James Benson & family, Auchendinny

I am trying to find any descendants of James Benson born 1835 in Auchendinny, who migrated to Australia in 1883 with his wife Isabella (Armstrong) and some of their children, John b. 1862, James b. 1864, William b. 1865, Robert b. 1879, Elizabeth b. 1869 , Devina b. 1877 and Agnes b. 1871.   The remaining children Frances Benson b. 1859 and Margaret b. 1863 remained in Scotland, and we have no knowledge of their families.

Our James Benson b. 1835 was son of Francis Benson and Agnes Bishop.

So you have Small/Smail/Smaiil and Kerr relations also Cowans in Scotland Also a John Johnstone nephew of Agnes Small on the 1851 census .

James Benson and Isabella Benson (nee Armstrong) are ancestors of my wife. From my research I have found children (briefly);

Francis b.1859
Isabella b.1860

Passenger Lists indicates all children migrated to Australia with parents except Margaret, Francis and David.

David d.1868 as per Scottish Death Cert.
Margaret and Francis d. 1871 - 1881 as both both appear in 1871 Scottish Census but not 1881 Scottish Census.

The NSW 1892 Death Certificates of both parents James and Isabella Benson (both died same year) indicate living names of living children, but not David, Margaret or Francis. As these three did not migrate with parents, nor not listed as living on parents' Death Certificates, and do not appear in 1881 Scottish Census, it is presumed they died post 1871 and pre 1881 (David confirmed 1868)

Yes, I thought you might see this posting, I know you have given me quite a large amount  of information in regard to the Benson family, but basically my posting was to enquire whether there were any descendants in Scotland (third or fourth generation) still alive who had further information in regard to James Benson and his family.

Also looking for any other descendants now in Australia, apart from you and us, researching our family
