Hi. I am looking for the Collier family in 1861/71
William Collier was a mariner and his wife Mary Ann. [I dont know birth years or place] I know of 1 son born 1854 South Shields > Benjamin George.
I would be grateful for any help.

In 1871 15 year old Joseph is a boarder

Yes - the only one I could find in 187i was Joseph - at boarding school - Sunderland Industrial School.

There is a family with a widowed mother Mary, and two sons John and Thomas of similar age to those in 1861, but the Benjamin there is aged 8 - I don't think this is any of them.  None are seamen.

Well - Tati - what do you think?

The three boys in 1851 - plus her being a mariners wife - suggest this might be correct.

On the other hand - William was a widower in 1861 and Mary is in 1871 - unless of course the 1871 Mary was William's 2nd wife ?

Plus - Benjamin in this family in 1871 is far too young!
