I think we can rule the 1871 family out ... I believe they're the ones whose name looks like Collive in 1861  :)

I think the 1861 family is correct as is Mary in 1851 with William away at sea. I found Joseph married on the 1881 census. Benjamin is also on 1881 before coming to Australia.

I think this Thomas Collier, bottle maker, is an uncle of Benjamin George Collier.

I've only seen transcripts (somewhere) of Thomas Collier's marriage to Mary North and William John (Sansom) Collier to Mary Ann Coulson.  Both records state that their father was called John.

Thomas and William both gave various children the middle name Sansom/Sanson.

I believe there is a link somehow back to Collier/Sansom families in Devon/Dorset

I wonder if one of these two might be your ancestor?  Thought I would just send this just in case it might have some relevance if you do not have already.  Info found via this site:

https://www.southtyneside.gov.uk/article/34814/Search-historical-births-deaths-and-marriages-records

THomas Collier married Mary North on 23 December 1837 at St Hilda.

William Collier married Mary A Coulson on 16 January 1843 at St Hilda.

(Have amended first name to Thomas.)

This one is included on FamilySearch.  :)
Not full details but his Father is recorded as John Collier and her Father as Thomas Coulson.
The couple were both single.

On the GRO index the maiden name of Benjamin George Collier's mother is recorded as Coulson.
