Don't forget that Cockermouth was (and still is) the regisration district for Workington. So a birth in Workington could easily appear as a registration in Cockermouth after 1837. Apparently Cockermouth was a thriving textile town then and Workington was only just rising as a mining/steel town so Cockermouth was chosen as the "big town".

Hi,
Have just come across your post (from a long time ago) regarding the William Casson (b1813 Cockermouth)  who married Mary Chambers (1833 Cockermouth ). These people are on my tree too. I have not been able to find William's parents. I believe that his father might have been the William b c1785 on the 1841 census living in the same street as Mary's parents George and Elizabeth Chambers but have never proved it. Did you ever find more information about them?

Regards
B
