Just wondering how you are getting on. Did ou find those websites? Do you think it is the right family line or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Have you found any more interesting facts?

Have found info on a house built by William Watchorn Perkins called Mawhera, Sandy Bay, Tasmania built b Seabrook and Reynalds.

Apologies for taking so long to reply but time goes too quickly these days. I accessed the website and found the photographs. Unfortunately I have been diverted by other local history work and have had to put Perkins on the backburner for a while. However I have noted everything you have given me and will return to it in the near future.

The maintenance team at St. Paul's Church has a new supervisor and work on the eastern section has uncovered the graves of Herbert Howard Perkins born Oct 31st 1851 died Oct 2nd 1928; Emily Perkins born Nov 20th 1851 died July 29th 1908 and Walter M Perkins born Dec 6th 1882 died Dec 13th 1909. The graves are surrounded by four kerbstones and until now had been hidden by weeds and long grass.

Good to hear from you. I know how easy it is to get diverted. Thanks for those dates. They are very useful. I only had estimates.

One thing I really want to work out at some point is what made Emily Colbourn go out to Tasmania. There must be some sort of family link. I'm wondering if she has links with the Watchorns and thier cousins the Chapmans who all lived in the same area (whitechapel) of London and all miragrated to Tasmania en mass in about 1825. As you know, Emily ended up out there in the 1870s and then marries Herbert Howard Perkins. I wonder what took her over there?

I wish there was a magic asnwer to it all,

The Perkins' magnet has drawn me back to the family tree.

I have just been re-reading the "Notes on Wokingham and the Perkins Family" by Howard Perkins and I find the beginning to be a trifle ambiguous.

   For example Howard begins by saying that his grandfather was Howard Heard Perkins. Surely if Howard is the son of Eric Heard (b. 1880) who is the son of Herbert Howard (1851-1928) then Howard Heard is Howard's great grandfather? It is Herbert Howard who is buried in St. Paul's churchyard and not Howard Heard.

The second paragraph begins, "Two years after he had his first son - Herbert Howard - he and the family sailed to Hobart Town, Tasmania.

The thirds paragraph begins, "My father, Eric Heard Perkins was born soon after they arrived in Tasmania". If Herbert Howard is Eric's father, it must have been quite a long voyage!

Would you be so kind as to supply a few dates of death of Eric Heard Perkins and his siblings. Do you know if Howard is still alive and if so is he contactable?

Wow - that's torn it. We will have to have another look at this again.

I did read somewhere on rootschat (an archived section from someone researching the Chapman family who are 'cousins' of the Perkins - think they married into the Watchorns and also went to Tasmania from London) that Eric Heard Perkins spent some time himself in back in Tasmania (Eric Heard Perkins was born in Tasmania and then came to England with his father Herbert Howard Perkins in about 1880). I'm guessing that Eric went back with his family for a while - maybe he had a son called Howard. It all very confussing!

My tree shows Howard Herbert Perkins (b1851 Hobart - d 1928 wokingham)

His children are:

Herbert Lindsay Perkins (b 1877 Hobart - think he died 1967 - England)
Eric Heard Perkins (b 1879 Hobart)
Cecil Henry Perkins (b 1881 Forest Gate, Essex)
Walter Montague Perkins (b 1882 Wrotham Heath, Kent - d 1909 Preston, Brighton, Sussex)
Sybil Kathleen Perkins (b1886  Wokingham)
Clara Emily Perkins (b1886 Wrotham Heath, Kent)
Frank Stanley Perkins (b 1888 Wokingham - d 1953)
Alan Howard Perkins (b1889 Wokingham)
Frances Mary Perkins (1895 Wokingham)

I will do a bit more research and see what I can tie up at my end

Me again. Have just done a quick bit of checking and found two children for Eric Heard Perkins:

Howard G Perkins b1919 - Wokingham
Cynthia M Perkins b 1921 - Wokingham

That would tie in. Perhaps Eric took his family to Tasmania soon after the birth of Cynthia.
