I have been using it on and off all day, with no problem so far. I am scared to switch the computer off now in case I can never get back to it. But there again - maybe that would be a good thing from the work point of view.

Well - if you get out, I don't think you will get back in now!  So make the most of it!  (I can't get in any more.)

I went out last night, leaving the site open on my laptop. When I got home and tried to use it again, it locked me out. Really annoying as I was just about to download an article relevant to my family.

I have just been offered another possible link so if it works, I'll post it in a little while.

The details that they are asking for relate to a University or higher education establishment library card.  Even then the actual establishment has to be registered with them.

Thanks David
Thought I was doing something wrong, dont know whether I can say this, but would my daughter who attends Uni be allowed to access this site, depending on being registered.

Thanks for your help

Please note we are not aware that this is a legitimate link so don't want direct links to institutions.  These generally turn out to be "back door" access due to security protocol problems.

RC does not want to be the method of circulating these essentially illegal links.

I know most people use and pass them in all innocence but unless we find evidence of a published trial open to the general public we have to remove the links.

Thanks for your understanding,
Pam

Sorry about posting the initial link. Along with a great many other people, I hadn't realised it wasn't an official site until problems started arising with gaining access to it.

I think they have closed the door fairly effectively now, though I wish they would re-open, even as a subscription site. I for one would be prepared to pay to be able to read these papers and feel it is a very great shame that, given that they are there, they are only available through an American university site to certain priveleged people.

Still - I found one or two gems in the time I had.

Hi Jen,

No problem  :)

This is info on the newspaper digitisation project...
http://www.bl.uk/collections/britishnewspapers1800to1900.html

Maybe an email to the project asking for info on general public access might show them there is a market.
