1841 Yorkshire census Carlton Miniott lookup request
« on: Thursday 13 January 05 13:04 GMT (UK) »
Does any kind person have the 1841 Yorkshire census and could please do a lookup for me?

I'm trying to find the family of John Willoughby, who was born at Carlton Miniott in 1835. He had a sister, Mary, who was also born there in 1836. John's parents were George Willoughby, born 1804 at Thirsk, and Betty, born 1803 at Kendal, Westmorland. The family were living at Carlton Miniott in 1851 but I don't know the actual address.

I'd be really grateful for any help! Many thanks - Jennie

Hello ,
Think this is they: HO107/1238/2/6 Carlton Minniot, Thirsk.

George Willoughby, 37, ag lab, Y.
Elizabeth Willoughby, 37, Y.
John D Willoughby, 5, Y.

Sorry no street is mentioned though, and no Mary at that house.

Ed,

Thanks a million, Ed - yes, this is definitely the right family! Shame no address and no Mary - think she must have died in infancy then. I thought it was odd that John appears to be their only child, but it seems to be right.

Thanks so much for finding them for me

Hello,
I found my ancestor and two siblings living with mothers parents nearby in the 1841 census, just a thought.
They were the only Willoughby's in the village I could see though.

Ed.

Thanks so much, Ed, it's a good idea. I know that George Willoughby was baptised at Sandhutton, near Thirsk, and he did have two brothers, James and John, plus quite a few sisters, so it's possible that there could have been more family members staying with them, perhaps there.
But Elizabeth Rymer, his wife, came from Kendal in Westmorland, so I guess if the other siblings were with anyone they would be more likely to have been with Willoughby relatives!

Thanks again for the advice!
