Hi wilcoxon, I'll have a look for her baptism in Hope.
Any thoughts where they might have married :-\?

Paul.

Dunno Paul,   ??? ??? you seems to have covered them all, except maybe Llanarmon Yn Ial and Llandegla , those are  the only other  old ones I can think of that are not too far away.

Hi team,
Great support - thanks.
Just to refresh the query (in response to #17: "why do you think Mary Lewis was from Hope").

Paul- you established for me (#1 & 3) that John Vaughan (3) was bap. in Hope on 24 Nov 1816.  He was s/o John (2) & Elinor.

Next backwards we have John V (2) marr to Elinor Humphrey(ie)s in Hope on 23 Nov 1812.  John (2) is s/o John (1) and Mary OTP.

Continuing our journey these are the entries for John & Mary's children - all in Hope (courtesy of a "rival" list response!):
1792 Dec 30 (b 15th) Margaret d/o John & Mary (Lewis of Rhanberfedd) in Caergwle... d Jan 24 age 1 mo
1786 Jan 1 John s/o John & Mary (Lewis) in Ca
1782 Jan 20  Sarah d/o John & Mary in Ca.  d Oct 25 1784 age 2

this is where we see that Mary is of Hope.

Therefore the next step was to look for the marr. of John & Mary - and hence the latest round of queries.  Hope hasn't one; nor do adjoining parishes (thanks Paul); but there's the one in Gwytherin (thanks wilcoxon).

Phew, I'm quite exhausted after typing that lot!!! :D

So next steps:

Mary Lewis in Hope?
John Vaughan in Gwytherin/Henllan? (can I drift off list category??!!)

Over to you ;D

Cheers wilcoxon - you obviously google a lot!!
Perhaps Mary is a daughter of Edward & Margaret.
If SKS could check the Hope baptisms for her?

I don't particularly care for GR, so don't subscribe.

A marriage licence was often used  for couples from different parishes to where the marriage took place, also sometimes where couples were from different classes.
It saved the banns being read out for three weeks before .
Isn`t there an index to Marriage Licences at the record offices.

Having read all your info, I must correct you and say Mr Roy Madeley is not 73 yrs old but has just turned 70 in Oct.   :D   We still have the chip shop in our family, I myself run it mostly now, dad helps out quite a bit.  Japonica nurseries was run by eldest brother Levi and his wife but they finished a couple of years ago.   Strange to be able to Google my dad!!
