Link:Yorkshire (NR) Parish Register transcripts for free
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 20:04 BST (UK) »
The Internet Archive in its "Texts" section has many Yorkshire Parish Register Society publications available for free download.  So many that there are bound to be some NR parishes, but I've not checked.

Keywords for the site's search function: Yorkshire (England) -- Genealogy Sources.  Restrict the search to media type "Texts" for better results.

Or click this link.

Hi pjbuk007,

I bookmarked the Internet Archive a long time ago for many things - not just PRs, e.g. music, films, etc.

I'd found Sussex PRs there before and went back looking for more.  The YPRS volumes are recent additions, I think.  It's worth making regular checks of the site incase they add more parishes.

Yes, thanks, I have it bookmarked too now.

I am looking at one or two unusual names; found an 1825 book of poetry by an undoubted distant relative of husband.  It is like Google books - I search that once or twice a year, and recently found an old law textbook with a case about another of husband's long-lost!

Yes, have to confess my names are common but husband (not interested at all) has cool and unusual names bristling in his tree!

Thank you for the site addresss.  As my families are in Yorkshire this will be very helpful.  I see that the have the parish of Patrington listed  Vol. 6.. I have been trying to get it open but all I get is blank pages or nothing at all.. I was wondering if any one else could have a look and see if there is any Shields or Crawforth families listed.

Going to check the rest of the site out. Never know my find something interesting.

Thanks
Anne

Anne,

Yes, both names are there in the index under various spellings - quite a few references to each.

I looked at the DJVU version of the volume - no real problems reading it, but it's a very big file.  There are one or two blank pages, but these are what I expect are blank in the original.

Which version did you look at (pdf, djvu, etc), and did you give it long enough to download?

You have to wait a while for it to download the first time.  Then I found it turns the pages quite quickly (just click).

Fun, isn't it?
