KazzaQLD Second Chance Scavenger Hunt...Everyone Welcome To Join In.
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 23:10 BST (UK) »

Sorry it's late folks, it was due to a small oversight on my part.  But it's here now and it's a good one. It's KazzaQLD's Second Chance Scavenger Hunt.  Get yourselves wrapped round this one and you'll have some fun.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

                                   *****************************

Trying to find more on my 3greats-grandparents John PEARSON and Sarah Ann DARBY.

My great-great-grandmother Teresa PEARSON was born 1st April 1852 in Sheffield (poor girl for being born April Fool’s Day, appropriate one for this time of year), I have the certificate.

On the certificate it states that her parents are John PEARSON and Sarah Ann formerly DARBY.

I have been able to find John and Sarah Ann as husband and wife in 1861, 1871. John dies between 1871 and 1881, and I can find Sarah Ann in 1881 and 1891. She died in 1900 so didn’t appear in 1901.

Based on her census information she was born about 1826 in Worksop in Nottinghamshire. The 1851 has her aged 23 so born 1828,  the 1861 has her aged 45 so born 1816, the 1881 has her aged 55 so born 1826  so it depends which one you believe!

Based on his census information he was born about 1806 in Bentley, the 1871 calculates to a birth year of 1803, the 1851 to 1802.

In 1851 they are living in the same house, but he is listed as widower and she is listed as S. A. DARBY, married, a visitor.. So it would appear that Sarah's maiden name was not DARBY.

In 1861 there is a child William b. abt 1848 in Sheffield, listed as son – he is not with them in 1851, so I am assuming that William is the child of a first marriage of John. There is a 3 year old William with a Lydia PEARSON in 1851 in completely different house (farmed out to relative perhaps)

I cannot find a marriage for a John PEARSON and Sarah Ann DARBY and I cannot find a John PEARSON and Sarah Ann that seems to fit.

I found a Moses DARBY marrying a Sarah Ann PRICE

Marriages Dec 1841
DARBY    Moses        Sheffield    22   497    Scan available - click to view
PRICE    Sarah Ann         Sheffield    22   497    Scan available - click to view

But no PRICE/PEARSON marriages located so far!

A fellow rootschatter has offered to look at the Library in Sheffield, but any other thoughts, suggestions etc are most welcome.

Yep and I thought she might be mine till a fellow rootschatter found her on the 1851 with DARBY as her surname and notation as married - course she could be lying about the married part!  >:(

You've probably already thought of this, but have you included the spelling Derby in your searches for Sarah Ann?
