I suggest you ask the librarian at St. Thomas Public Library (Elgin County) to check for a newspaper obit for you.  I know that they did that for someone else, at my suggestion, and sent the obit to her.
It's possible that the newspapers for that month have not survived, which is why they are not indexed, but the librarian will know.
Failing that, I would try the London Free Press, in London, Ontario.  London is very close to St. Thomas, and is a much larger centre.  No matter where he died, it's likely the local paper(s) carried the obit, for one of such an age!

Late to the party, but so excited to find this info. My great aunt (by marriage) was Constance Roland Pratt. I have her scrapbook about her father the Captain, along with a nice pic made on one of his 100s birthday. Her sister, Marion, lived with my great uncle until her death. I have never seen a copy of the book. I only recently found the Canadian connection on Ancestry. Aunt Connie and my Uncle moved back to GA after he retired from the Illinois Central. They’re both buried here. I’m not at home so I can’t look up any of the info or pictures. Hopefully someone is still interested. Thanks!
