Coverdale family - Dawdon
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 10:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could find this family on the 1851 census:
William Coverdale born 1811 in South Shields
Mary Coverdale born c1810 in South Shields
Hannah Coverdale born c1836/39 in South Shields

I have them living in Dawdon on the 1841 census and again on the 1861 census.  By this time Mary is widowed and daughter, Hannah, has married Francis Appleby and has a daughter, Sarah.
Mary is easily traced on the 1871 and 1881 census and dies in 1882 still living in Dawdon.
Hannah is widowed before 1871 and remarries to Thomas Raine.

However, I cannot trace any family members in 1851.  Can anybody find them?

Sue

I cannot see them either.  Have you tried going into the Dawdon census and searching each page?
How do you know William was born in South Shields?   The 1841 does not give birth places.  As he was an engineer it is possible he left a will.  Mary does not have an occupation on any of the later census so she must have been reasonably independent.
Is William shown as living on Hannah's marriage certificate?
