i don't know anything about the 1st world war
« on: Wednesday 09 April 08 20:54 BST (UK) »
I don't know anything about the 1st world war so may be making a fool of myself with any historical knowledge.
i have a kind of note written by my grandads brother ernest rose to his mother during the 1st world war.
He survived the war and seems to have served in the Dardenelles ?? Gallipolli ??.
Is it too much of a long shot to be able to pin him down and find out a bit more about him.

cheers
iain

Hi Iain,

There are quite a few listing for the name Ernest Rose on the WW1 Pension Records.  Can you give us any more info such as year and County of birth?

The Gallipoli is in the Dardenelles and was the subject of a failed amphibious landing.

The idea was that the Allies would strike at the soft underbelly of the Central Powers and knock Turkey out of the war...

Hi Iain,

There are several pages relating to an Ernest Rose from Bermondsey in the WW1 Pension Records, I haven`t spotted any for an Ernest from Battersea though  ???  Do you happen to know the names of his parents?

His family were Bemondsey/ Wandsworth area.
His father was a George Rose and his Mother Louisa Rose if this helps.

Many Thanks.
