The film containing Alexander's death reg was out and I could only loiter around waiting for so long as I was on my lunch.  But I'll pop back in tomorrow or Saturday and look it up.

You could also try and search the Victoria City Directories to see if he is listed.  Not all are online but some earlier ones can be found here - http://www.vihistory.ca/search/search.php - although the site is down due to technical issues.  Also try http://www.ourroots.ca/e/search.aspx?field=Subject&key=Victoria+(B.C.)--Directories

He might not have had a permanent residence in Victoria.  A lot of labourers and gold seekers were moving in and out of Victoria at that time and many stayed in the hotels or rooming houses.  But it might be worth a look.

My only claim to fame (and it is a stretch!) is that my great-great-grandfather, Edward Mallandaine, published the first Victoria City Directories in the 1860s!

Okay, I do have one other claim to fame, I once served a pizza to the actor Michael J. Fox.  It was a deluxe with the works.

Hi lemon

Thanks for all this information. It's more than I could have hoped for. I've no claim to fame. However my niece and her husband live in Vancouver. She's a medical doctor and he's an oncologist.

Cheers

Aw, J.J., you're making me blush again!

Benzol - I haven't forgotten the Alexander McNaughton lookup but I was waylaid by the flu and  unfortunately, the film cannister containing the 1937 deaths has gone missing from the library.  They are doing a search for it and will call me when they find it.  If they can't find it, they'll order a replacement from BC Archives.  It might take a few weeks but I should be able to get the immigration details for you eventually.

There's a few McNaughton living "Edmonton R'd" area ( seems to no longer exist...but nothing for Alexander...)

The Lynches guide says it has Steamer, Stage and Ocean Steamship Time table! but not able to view it?

Benzol,

I am looking for info on Alexander Peers McNaughton. DNA is suggesting he is a long lost relative. Can you help me?

Steve

Welcome to Rootschat, Steve..as benzol hasn't answered, I have private messaged him in case his notification was turned off for this thread... Hopefully he will answer soon. In the meantime reread the thread and prepare any notes & questions for when they do answer. Or...perhaps someone on here can help if doesn't answer. in a week or two ( holidays and all )

Hi Steve
Sorry missed this one. Just having a revisit and picked it up.

A P McN was my first cousin once removed. Lived Victoria BC. Born 28.9.1907; died 1.5.1957.
His father Alexander McNaughton was born Perth Scotland, arrived in Victoria late 1800s. A McN was my mothers uncle.
Know nothing much about mother A P McN. Her name was. Maria Newsham Peers. I believe her family had been in Canada since the very early days.

Have lots of info on Scottish side of the family.

My apologies once again
