I have at last found the marriage, in 1869, in
Scotland of : MARGARET ANN MITCHELL, of
Beaumaris: 26 AUG 1869, at Edrom, Berwick,
Scotland, to William PHILLIPS, born c. 1820-1
in Kingham, Oxfordshire. I can find no trace of
his birth, but this from the 1881 CENSUS OF
ANGLESEY - BEAUMARIS.
Margaret Anne MITCHELL was born in Beaumaris,
to James, c. 1804, and Margaret [nee ROBERTS,
c1812], and Mgt. Anne was chr. on 24 Apr 1843,
at Beaumaris. Her Mitchell father's lineage is
particularly travel-prone, with individuals born in
Scotland, Isle of Man, Wisconsin, as well as in
Wales, etc.
William moved between Wales, London, and Ohio, so
it is a nightmare trying to piece their lives together.
Family tradition is that he had a farm in Ohio, and
at the 1880 US CENSUS, they were present in
Madison, Lake County, Ohio, with Peter MITCHELL,
40 of Scotland, and his dau., Jenny, then 8, born in
Wisconsin. Presumably Mrs. Peter M. had passed
away. William was indeed listed as a farmer, with
age compatible with the UK 1881 CENSUS.
Any idea why William & Mgt. chose to marry in Edrom,
Scotland, and if any of details of the complex family
can be unravelled, or show in the various marriage
or CENSUS details?
William's parents + siblings remain a mystery.
Margaret's relative [sister, aunt, cousin?], Anne
MITCHELL, born in Scotland - about 1850, was visited
by Grace PHILLIPS, dau. of the above couple, at
10 Towns End, Beaumaris on the 1891 CENSUS.
No sign of her mother or father. Earlier Anne
MITCHELL appears in the 1881 CENSUS with
Goronwy ROBERTS, Architect, + Margaret [ROBERTS]
MITCHELL, at Llandegai. Grace did write a sequence
of family chronologies in her family book, but this
was sadly discarded at her passing. I am hoping
to connect with the family of her cousins, etc. I am
her grandaughter.
