Hi

Wouldn't it be wonderful. I have been praying for 1906 photographs. I think I will now treasure them!!!!

I will  turn my attention to my problem of Spam, that will keep me occupied for a few days!!

Best wishes RBC.

Ok - let's see if this is any help.

When you delete a file, by and large it isn't really deleted. What happens is that the entry in the file index pointing at the actual file is removed. The file itself still exists, it's just not visible through views using that index. Formatting can be the same, especially the "quick" variety. This can be useful if you accidentally delete your photos because it means you can recover them with specialist software. It's also part of how police carry out forensic examinations of PCs but let's not go there.

So it's no surprise that the photos are still on the memory card. Not clear though how they keep getting new entries in the index.

If you really want to get rid of them perhaps you should try something like Eraser (http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/) which will really destroy the image files by overwriting them.

Hi Les

Thank you for the eraser site. Is it just for removing files from the computer? If so it may come in useful one day.

I am beginning to loose interest now, although I  would be very interested to know how it happened. The offending 91 images were taken in 2006. All photographs taken since that batch have remained deleted.

I think I will take the camera to a shop, let them see that there none to view on the camera and then show them what happens when the card is put into the machine for printing. I bet after all this it will be completely blank!!

It's an annoying niggle isn't it.  I would be interested to hear if they all turn up on the machine, (as before,) when your camera has no indication of them.

Hi

Eraser is for erasing (overwriting) files both on the computer and on removable media such as memory cards and sticks, CD-RW, floppies (what were they?), etc.

It's really a privacy tool. And no, it's not just for hiding your dodgy tracks. I use it at work to ensure that files of sensitive personal info on removable media really are gone and unrecoverable should it fall into the wrong hands - it's a shame HMR&C didn't pay as much attention to detail!
