« on: Sunday 13 April 08 23:48 BST (UK) »
Can anyone find me Margaret Dolan, born in Ireland 1861 (no location known), in the Haddington  or  North Berwick area on the 1881 cencus?
She is the daughter of Francis Dolan and Mary Lee, and had siblings Bridget, Patrick,Myles,Hugh,John and Catherine.
  Thanks,
    Pat.

Hi Pat,

Might Margaret be married by 1881 in which case she will appear on the census with her married name?

I had a quick look on Ancestry's 1881 Scottish census but can't see her - I will try again.

Would you expect Margaret to be with her family? Do you have any of her family in any census, if so could you please give more information, ref numbers etc?

 Thanks to you both,
You may be able to help me here. I am assuming she was born in Ireland because that is what I have been told by 2 other people with Margaret Dolan in their trees. But neither of the 2 have a  location.
In 1901, Margaret, with her husband, John Blessington, was living in Burton on Trent. As far as I know, they were living at Cooperage House, in Wetmore road. They were definately there in 1908.
She was the child of Francis Dolan, born 1819, in Ballingera, Ireland, and Mary lee, born 1825, in Leitrim, Ireland.
  They had 7 children ;-

Patrick, born1847
Bridget, born1849
Myles, born 1851
Hugh, born1857
John, born1859
Margaret,born 1861
Catherine, born 1854

I have them all born in Ireland, according to my informants, but I am coming up with Patrick as being baptised in Markle, Prestonkirk.
I have Mary Lee as dying in House Crook, North Berwick on Nov 19 1865
Margaret Dolan married John Blessington on Feb 2 1883 in St.Mary's, Haddington

Apart from this I have been unable to find her on any cencus, but that might be because I have been looking in the wrong places.

If you can come up with anything to help me find her birth as being in Scotland, rather than Ireland, then , maybe I will be able to make more sense of things.

  Cheers, Pat.

There were 6 Margaret Dolans born in Scotland between 1855 and 1865 - according to free search on SP, anyone have 1 credit to see if any born in North Berwick?  (nearest date to Pats appears to be 1860)

Regards,   Steve :O)

Hi everyone,
Ev has the right family there. Myles, born in Haddington 1884 was my Grandfather.  He was the oldest child of John and Margaret. In 1901 he was working as a coppersmith in Christchurch..
But where were they in 1891?

Every thing I come across says Margaret was born in Ireland, but nothing will lead me to a location. Does anyone know whether it would give a definate place of birth on her Wedding certificate if I traced that, or could that be just as unhelpful and just say ireland too?

I've tried all sorts o ways to get more info on Margaret, and each time hit a brick wall - it is very frustrating!

The Blessington's in general seem to go missing on cencus days. It's even crossed my mind that they must have got onto their donkeys and trudged off to Bethlehem each time!
If anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to follow up any possibility.

   Cheers, Pat.

PS Just tried to post this and saw your 2cnd post Ev. I'd been looking for them in Ireland in 1871. That's one definate sighting of Margaret anyway.
