Hi Ian,

This may help:

Benjamin Ridding, son of Rev Thomas Ridding, rector of Wonston.  Baptised at Wonston 4 May 1742.  Scholar at Eton. Matriculated King's College Cambridge - Easter 1760.  Gained his BA in 1764, his MA in 1758.  He was a Fellow 1763-6.  He apparently obtained his preferment from Bishop Hoadly of Winchester  who was a relation.  He died soon afterwards.

I think this must be Benjamin Hoadly, 1676-1761.  He had previously been Bishop of Bangor, Hereford and Salisbury before his appointment at Winchester.  He was born in Kent where his father was also a clergyman.

Looking for a connection, but it's not immediately obvious. :(

Francis was most definitely a clergyman, as was his grandson Francis. He and Anne  had Francis, Nathaniel, John, Robert and William [in that order].

Their son John had Henry, Mira [sic], Agnes, Montague, Edwin and Robert.

Francis and Anne's Robert [as opposed to the Robert who was John's son]had Harriet, Robert, William, Eliza, Caroline and Henry.

The son Francis married Jane Williams whose ancestors I'm just working out but can go back three generations.
Hope this is helpful. If you'd like dates just email me. I haven't checked them yet but I assume someone writing in 1860 should have it right :-)
Best wishes
