Willow       many thanks for your reply

I am not sure if this is him or not,he was certainly born in Edinburgh. I am going a round about way through Walter to try and find his mother Matilda Robb nee Leishman. Walter married 1875 Edinburgh to Agnes/Ann Greig on their marriage record in 1875 Walters mother was classed deceased.

I think I will put a new 1861/71 census posting up for Walters father Andrew Robb as I have tried for his mother recently to no avail.
thanks for your help with this posting. another posting coming up in a min if you care to help.

Hi Willow

I was just about to send a message to you.I have 1841 and 1851 census on Matilda but cannot find 1861 or 1871. there is a 1861 census in Glasgow for a Matilda unfortunately it is not the one I am looking for. Just a thought do you think Matildas christian name could have been altered like a nick name

Hiya Fiona

There might be a chance that Matilda is dead by 1861 which could explain why Walter is living with his grandparents

I have seen your post on Andrew and had a look for him but nothing is coming up.

It would be worth putting a post on the Scotland board with a link to these two posts as someone on there would have access to Scottish records and might be able to confirm if his parents died and when

There is an Andrew and Margaret who are approximately the right age. Andrew is an iron turner in 1861 and and an engine turner in 1871.

I have found an Andrew in 1851 and he is a smith who might be the one you are looking for
