Is the Harry Gerrish (7 scholar) Henry Edward Gerrish? I am trying to establish whether he is the father of winifred Rose Gerrish, born 1894 (my maternal grandmother).

But in 1871 their is a Henry E Gerrish 28 with parents John and Dorcas  both aged 66 living in Ditchampton, Wilts

Some thoughts.  The only Winifred Rose Gerrish popping up in FreeBMD and censuses was registered born Melksham Q2 1890.  Father Edward Henry Gerrish born Trowbridge about 1862.  His parents Thomas and Sarah, also of north Wilts (Melksham/Trowbridge).  So perhaps she is from the Trowbridge folk?

I am very green at this so apologies for any incorrect assumptions.

I have the marriage certificate for the marriage in Melksham of Winifred Rose to Reginald Hillam Coulson in 26/6/1919, showing her as 25 and from Melksham and her father as Henry Edward Gerrish.

Interestingly, I also saw (but cannot re-find) an entry of a Winifred Rose Gerrish marrying a man by the name of Hobbs and I wondered if Winifred lost an unknown first husband in WW1.

The 1871 census fits with the 1851 census where the Henry is shown as 9 years with father John and Dorcas. That would make him about 50 when my grandmother was born.

it is interesting.

The Winifred Rose Gerrish b 1890 would have been 29 on marrying my grandfather but the marriage certificate shows her to be 25. The latter fits more with her death certificate but the parent ages probably fits a bit better.

Can anyone search the births/deaths/marriages records without have to pay?
