Hi Sara, I've just typed this reply before I realised that your original post was back in May!
I have had a similar problem finding information on my Devon ancestors. I had been wanting to go down there for ages (am also a long way away) and finally did so in September. I went to the Devon FHS office, they then directed me to the West Country Studies Library. I soon got an answer as to why I couldn't find much information on the IGI - the parish records I wanted had been destroyed by enemy action in WW2. However, when I visited the Devon Records Office I was pleased to be able to look at one of the records I wanted on the Bishop's Transcript.
I suppose what I'm saying to you is that there may well be records other than the obvious ones and Rootschatters are the best ones to direct you there!
