Looking for James Blackberry whitechapel england

I`m wanting any information on James Blackberry born Whitechapel 1822. His fathers name was Thomas, his brothers names being Thomas, George and William. James was transported to Tasmania in 1843 on the ship Forfarshire. This information was taken from his convict records. James` partner was Ann Condon[alias Duffy] also a convict. We think they never married. They settled in the township of Westbury Tasmania. I have found James on the I.G.I but it doesn`t give much information at all. Can anybody help please.

I cant find any Blackberry's on the 1841 census at all.

the only possible is a Charles, who is indexed Blackbury, though the image could read Blackberry, it is very faint and hard to read. Not that the spelling really means a lot back in 1841, of course.

Anyway there is Charles, aged 29, bn Middlesex, living in Marylebone
HO107 677 2

But Charles is not any of the names you list.......

Thankyou for looking for me, James is a mystery. Blackberry is not a common name I know. I thought he might be easy to find,obviously not. He may have told a load of rubbish in his convict details. We have been told by family legend that he was the son of a Captain William Wood but I can`t find any connection at all. Captain William Wood came to Tasmania in the 1820`s and James in 1843. Many convicts changed their names but we couldn`t find an alias for James.

so ... family legend says his dad was William Wood, your first post said his dad was a Thomas (Blackberry?) - where did the Thomas info come from?

I see the IGI entry - is that where you got the d-o-b and place Whitechapel from?

I see it is a member submitted entry, so should be treated with a huge amount of caution. As you say there are no details, so the submitter has obviously not got the info from a sourse such as a parish register, which would have given parents names.
I wouldnt take any notice of this entry at all.

No I certainly wont take any notice of it. My aunt got James convict records and thats where we got his fathers and brothers names from. It said his native place was whitechapel England. As I said he may have lied about his past. You never know. His trial record is on the Old Baily site.

I would guess the submitter got the info from the same place then.

Being nosey, I have just tried to find it, but cant find it on Old Bailey site.

Sorry I didn`t see your post regarding William Wood. Its just that older family members had it in their head that James Blackberry was Captain William Woods son.My aunt and I cannot find a connection or where they reckon he is connected to William Wood when his convict records tells us that his father was Thomas and his native place Whitechapel England. I have been trying to get distant family members to show me where they have found the connection but to no avail. Just wishful thinking on their part I think.Thats why I`m trying to find James Blackberrys birth record to show who his father and mother was.

Its hard to find on the Old Baily site. When I first tried I couldn`t find him but I tried again yesterday and found him.The site was only working slowly as they were advertising that there were a lot of users on site. The site goes beyond the year 1834 like it used to.
