Hugh Robert Hughes Llanfyllin
« on: Monday 05 May 08 11:28 BST (UK) »
Hi All

looking for any info on a Hugh Robert Hughes, believed to have been born around 1880 in Llanfyllin, Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire, Powys Wales. He is my great grandfather and is proving impossible to trace.

Only other records i have for him is a marriage to Harriet Hughes in Liverpool 1909, and a listing as deceased on my grandmothers marriage certificate in 1937. I can find no death records or any census returns for him? his marriage certificate does not list his fathers name?? :-[ but says he was born Llanfyllin, age makes it around 1880?

do you think i can find him?

many thanks.

Anthony

Well ... it's on FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

The cert can be ordered online here: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
Price is £7

Quote
The details contained on a full birth certificate include:
Name, date and place of birth.
Father's name (if given at time of registration) and occupation.
Mother's name, maiden surname and, after 1984, occupation.

If there wasn't a father mentioned on the marriage certificate then the birth cert probably won't show one either. However you'll discover his mother's name and also a more detailed place of birth. From there, hopefully, we might find him on census.

Hmmm. That's a bit odd then - wonder why he didn't mention a father when he married then ???

Yes it does seem strange Tati, and yet the possible Birth you gave fits with the 1881 Census entry, and there were no apparent doubts with the Parents having two older children,as to them being married!Talking of which,I'm struggling to find any David/Jane Hughes marriage in the area, only one of a David Hughes and a Jane Lloyd in 1871.
