Thank you Essie. I looked on the OPC site and found the marriage and baptism of the children of Jane Tippett. Did George come out earlier than the family?

I have  not found George Tippett on a passenger list.  Perhaps he paid for his passage and his family qualified for assisted passage?

Thank you for your help. I believe I have the correct Elizabeth.
From this thread ,I believe it said Susan was married twice. Still searching to find some hints that I have the correct MaryAnn and Susan. I found the info on http://www.familyhistorysa.org//colonists.html. The dates seem to match.

Place names recorded in various BMD records were Mt Barker Springs and Macclesfield for most of the SNELL family except Susan. However, Susan's first husband had a business and farm at Mt Barker Springs, and she arrived via TAS with her parents in 1845.

Mary Ann and Josiah THOMAS married at Macclesfield and lived around that area before going to Moonta.  I did not find a baptism for Mary Ann, nor is she named in this census with this SNELL family.

1841 Census  HO107/152/2
Living at Plasnewyd, Bodmin, Cornwall
SNELL John  50 years  Miner in copper mine  born county
SNELL Ann   45 years  born county
SNELL Elizabeth 14 years  born county
SNELL Susan  10 years  born county
SNELL John  7 years  born county
SNELL Edwin 4 years  born county.

Cheers
Cando

Hi

I have finally found an obituary for Mary Ann THOMAS that says she left England in 1842 and went to TAS with her parents and then to SA.

Thank you for your help. I’ve been working on all the children of the Snells.
I found all the chn of Maryann and Josiah Thomas.Just birth dates .Nothing more.
Same with the chn of Elizabeth and William Harper. I did find a lot on the one daughter Susan 1860-1955 who married Thomas Oliver Richards.
Did Susan Snell have any chn to either husband!!
I’m still working on the chn of John Snell and Sarah Miller. There is a lot of them :)

I’m also trying to see if there is a connection!
Eliza Ann Snell 1820 is the GGGGrandmother of my Dad,Francis Jennings.
My Mother’s name is Olive Valentine(born in Scotland) Her Dads name is Walter James Valentine.
John Hill and Sarah Miller had a son Walter James Valentine Snell 1877 SA- 1927 VIC.

My moms GGGrandmother Grace Insater Webster was born 1840 Orkney Scotland  She married James Brewster Valentine.
Her parents were David Webster/Mary Donaldson from Orkney.

So the name and Orkney are a common factor.
I was just wondering !!!

this is an extract from my Grandmother Hilda Jacobs nee Pearce daughter of Ada Grace Snell about Aunt Susan

On Grandfather Snell's side I know of only one sister, She would have been Susan Snell. Evidently she married twice, first to a Mr Baker, who died leaving her a little property of 3 cottages all side by side in Adelaide. These she was able to let two of and live in the third one. Later she married Mr Gilbert. We always spoke of them as Aunt and Uncle Gilbert. When Mr Gilbert died, Aunt lived on in her little cottage, She would come up to Paskeville at times and visit around her young nieces and nephews as she did not have any family of her own. We always paid her an afternoon visit when in Adelaide. I was very young, but remember her tidy little cottages each with a tidy front garden and a white picket fence. I think the address was Hobson Place off Wright St. Adelaide but I don't remember the number.
When Aunt Susan visited us, she would ask for a chair to be placed out the back yard on Washing day, there she would sit for hours just watching the clothes blowing out on the line, she had always lived in the city, where it was sheltered and the clothes did not get enough wind to blow them around.
Our Aunt Isabel (always known as Aunt Bel) used to live in one of Aunt Susan's cottages after her husband Mr Ferguson died in Broken Hill. He worked in the Broken Hill mines. died of pneumonia leaving his wife and 3 little children. Kenneth was frail little fellow and she lost him also. Aunt Susan was good to the family, took Aunt Bel and Katie and Charlie to live in this cottage rent free until Aunt Bel could get a new start and find work that she could do and look after the children as well.
