blazons! 2000 coat of arms drawing program
« on: Wednesday 07 May 08 14:49 BST (UK) »
does anybody else use it at all?
i've managed to get an ancestors coat of arms in so it shows all the correct items on the shield BUT it has a blank line down the middle and the shaping at the bottom doesn't follow the shield shape.

can anybody help?

I know of two heraldry programs, and they are similarly named:  Blazon and Blazons!  (probably succeeded by Blazon 95 and Blazons! 2000 as operating systems were upgraded).  The latter "attempts" to interpret and display a coat of arms from the description that you type in.  There must inevitably be limitations: the program can only contain so many charges etc to choose from in order to "compile" the coat of arms

The former is designed to teach the user the basics of heraldry and allows the user to create some basic coats of arms.  These can only be created correctly if the program contains all the charges that have ever been used - and that, in my opinion, is impossible.

Neither can ever accurately display the intricacies of a complicated coat of arms - there are just too many variables.  The shape of the shield can vary (continental shields tend to be displayed differently).

If you think there is a problem with the program itself, then it may be worth contacting the software writer to see if there is a way to overcome it.

I'm not familiar with the way this particular program works and its a long time since I used the other one.

Have you consulted the Help files, the manual and even the technical support (if any is offered)?
