Littlechild, Lagden , Cumbers & Beard & not forgetting Wilding & Cole
« on: Monday 05 April 04 23:55 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I do Littlechild anywhere, Lagden (mainly Essex), Cumbers (linked to Doddinghurst & surrounding areas) & Beard (Essex).
If you want info on any of these names, or can supply info (even better) - please email me, or post, or whatever.
I am not restricted to these areas, I will help out, and am interested in info on any of these names, (except Cumbers must be in Essex at the moment) which is too wide a scope even for me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best
Kevan
Check my site/ tree which includes families not necessarily linked. Updated tonight - what a Good Friday

Hi Jaq,
Thanks for these and a previous compliment for my site search engine from a previous listing. I have no idea where these fit in at the moment, but will store them away. I have just received the Suffolk 1861 census, and the gems it produces in answering many questions is brilliant, and time consuming, too!
I forgot to add Wilding to the list of names, but then the criminal records would fill a page, or two - maybe. I'll stick to the wealthier side of the family, once upon a time.

ps for others reading this, the Essex & Suffolk site search engine is at :
http://kevw.net/SelectEvery.htm and password is zedonk. lots of these names were added a couple of days ago into the online tree at

Thankyou for this info. I don't suppose you have any other detail, e.g. names and dates?
Thanks

Hello Kevan,

A newsclip dated 11 May 1917 (Derby Mercury paper) includes the following:-

Private A.W. Littlechild, late Derbyshire Yeomanry and now with the Durham Light infantry, has been wounded in France. Private Littlechild is the third son of Sergeant Major Littlechild, late of the  Derbyshire Yeomanry , who has four sons serving.

My interest is with a Frank Littlechild, Derbyshire Yeomanry, who served in The Boer War of 1899+ ,  the Great War, at some stage transferred to the Labour Corps 1918/19 and is recorded on his Medal Index Card as "died" but there is no trace of his death on the CWGC site or the CD SDGW. A thread is running currently on The Great War Forum .

For your information and anything you have on a Frank Littlechild's death circa 1920s Derby area ?

thanks

Stuart

Hello Stuart,
Out of interest, what is your Littlechild interest? Have you been in contact with Stephen littlechild? I can pass your details on to him. I presume you have visited my site, as I have an extensive array of Littlechild material available, although mostly pre 1900.
Thanks for the reply, I will do some searching.

Hi stuart,
I guess you have this info from 1891 census, but in St Werburgs, Derbyshire, living in Cobden Street  - there is a Thomas Littlechild (41) and wife Agnes (37) plus many children.
Thomas is a Sergeant Major Instructor (last word looks like 'Camerly'). He is from Melbourne, Cambs. , which is incidentally the area I am researching as we speak. Children are:
Letitia (15)
Agnes (11)
Lily H (10)
Frank (8)
George (6)
Ada (3)
Arthur W (1)

Hello Kevan,

Thank you for the replies.

My interest in Frank Littlechild is purely medal research. This site was mentioned on another site and I joined to see what I could offer but it is already working both ways. :)
No, I have not been in contact Stehpen Littlechild.
I have visited your site .

I am grateful for the 1891 census information, which I did not have.
In fact this is the first census information I have as although I research medals I cannot class myself as a genealogist.

I am pleased that the post might be of use to you as I did not know whether my information was too modern.

If I come across anything else I will get back to you.

Thanks

Stuart
