Nothing Adds Up

Hello everyone. I have posted on the Scotland Pages and on the Military Pages but to no avail.

I know my grandad's name and I know his father's name but for the life of me I cannot find ANY information linking them as father and son.

Here is what I have so far.

James Patrick Mc/MacDonald born Scotland c 1887. (Probably Greenock/Glasgow area. Age deduced from his Welsh marriage certificate in 1911).

His father was Dominic Macdonald SAILOR deceased before 1911.

This is all I have for definite but there are other things I have guessed at which I won't mention for now.

Can anyone truly help me please?
