Hi

I missed the place of birth for Mary (Mindrum) as it was so hard to read. I have also found her entry in 1881 and 1851 where she is a grocer in Longbenton - in 1881 place of birth is given as Mindrum, in 1851 it is probably also Mindrum.

Unfortunately IGI has no Duxfields baptised or married at Carham or Mary/Joseph Duxfields born to Joseph in Northumberland in the relevant period.

Hi Tony

Mindrum, as I'm sure you know, is way up north so now I'm thinking that, if father Joseph was a husbandman when his son was married, maybe he was an ag. lab. when he was younger.  These guys wandered all over the county as the work took them and it is often very difficult to find all the children of a family because they were born and baptised in different parishes.  Even if Mary was born in Mindrum she may have been baptised later in a different place and her brother could be anywhere!

This is, of course, pure conjecture on my part and I will have a go at finding him as soon as I can if you don't locate him in the meantime.  Don't you just love a challenge?

Hi,

I'm back from holiday and assuming you're still looking for your Duxfields.  I was in Northumberland archives today but can't give you any positive news unfortunately.  I can tell  you where Joseph Jnr. is not!  He's not in Earsdon, Bedlington or Newbiggin.

Next time I'm there (don't know when) I'll cast the net a little wider and maybe have a look at the parishes around Mindrum.

1841 census,
Cottages in Stotts House Farm, Walker, Longbenton,
Joseph Duxfield, age 84, Ag.Lab., Y,
Mary Duxfield, age 25, Teacher, Y,

On Ancestry, their surname is transcribed as Buxfield, but its definetly Duxfield. Joseph is transcribed as age 34, but its definetly 84, looking at other ages on the page.

Alan.

Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,
Ireland - Collins

Hi

Well spotted - it's them OK - she gave up being a teacher and became a grocer instead. Now have an approximate birth date for Joseph.

Thanks

Hi Tony, I live in Tynemouth.  Will pop to the Library on Monday and see if I can find your Joseph Duxfield, born circa 1757 in the PR's
