Any Chance of VIC Electoral Roll lookup?

I am wondering if perhaps Frances Waller could be found on a Victorian Electoral Roll between 1916 and 1940.

Up to 1920, I would expect to find her daughter Elsie May Waller b. C1894 living with her.

many thanks Kevin

I can see Elsie after her marriage - 1924
1924 Given, Elsie  61 Weigall St South Yarra home duties
same address Given, John Thomas Shearer

The only (remote) possibility before the marriage is
1919 Echuca Rushworth
Waller Elsie Rushworth home duties
(no other Waller in this roll)

No sign of an Elsie & Frances together (that I can see)

This looks to be the only possibility for Frances (others appear to be married - or in Victoria 1903)
Frances Mary
1919 21 Well St Brighton home duties

Thanks Trish, that's the daughter, Elsie Waller married John Thomas Given.  :)

I'm clutching at straws trying to find Frances.  He full name was Frances Emily D Waller.  I think the D stands for "Dryden" an early maiden name.

We're not sure how long she remained in Australia even though Elsie did remain, married and died here.  It is possible Frances returned to England or South Africa.  One family belief is that she went to South Australia, but I can't find her there either.

Thanks again, Kevin

Hi Kevin

Are you sure Elsie was born in South Africa?

The following family on the 1901 British Census looks like a likely prospect.

RG13/1619 Folio: 86 Page: 17
67 Boundary Road, Leyton Essex
Arthur Harrington Head 41 Strand, London Plumber own account
Fannie Harrington Wife 32 Windsor Berkshire
Elsie Waller Step daughter 6 Paddington London
Alicw Harrington Daughter 1 Leyton Essex

Frances Waller married Arthur Harrington  West Ham December Qtr 1898 Ref: 4a 149

Regards

Genni

Hi Jenn, I did get Elsie Waller's marriage certificate in 1920.  Francis Waller is not mentioned (as I was hoping).  The witnesses are, first initial unreadable C. Lyte and M Given, which doesn't help much.  Frances maiden name is the problem.  She used the name Lascelles, but her real name was Lovett.  As a witness on my Great Uncle's death certificate in 1897 she is Frances Waller (now married .... but I can't find any marriage record) I believe that marriage?? ended in divorce but she continued to use Waller.

Hi Genni, Elsie was born in England around 1894.  Frances & Mr. Waller left for South Africa around 1912 but when the marriage broke down Elsie was sent back to london into service.  Now the interesting bit ...............

There is a record of a Miss Waller, 21 and a Mrs Waller 49 in the Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923 arriving on the MALWA in March 1916. Port B Fiche 911 Page 001.  Mrs Waller's age is within a year of being correct, Frances Waller nee Lovett / Lascelles in born in 1869.  Elsie Waller gets married in 1920 aged 25.

We know Elsie remained in Australia until she died 2 September 1976 buried Templestowe Cemetery.

What I want to know is what happened to Frances Waller.

Thanks very much for your help, Kevin

Hi Genni, I can't believe I didn't look closer at your discovery in Reply #4.  You found it before anyone else.  But I didn't know then what I know now.

It is unclear just when she went to South Africa and under what name.

It was not until I was contacted by a third cousin, who provided some further information that I went looking again for Frances Waller.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,216152.0.html   :-[   (embarressed)

The IGI gives this Frances Harrington's maiden name as Lascelles (a name she adopted after leaving home as Frances Lovett) and there are too many coincidences for it not to be her.

Frances Lovett was born 1869 in Windsor (as was her sister, my Great Grandmother) making her 31 0r 32.
Her daughter was Elsie Waller born 1894 in Paddington, making her 6 in 1901.

On the strength of your discovery I have applied for the marriage certificate to see what else it reveals.

Thanks (albeit a bit late) for your help.

Kevin
