1861 Census Matilda Jackson
« on: Wednesday 19 January 05 15:08 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate a lookup for Matilda Jackson born Quebec Canada and belived to be living in Worsley.  Age should be about 25.

Many thanks
Sue Gill

According to the 1881 census Matilda Jackson born Quebec circa 1835 was living in Worsley and married to Amos Jackson born Little Hulton circa 1837.
Is this the Matilda you are interested in?

The 1871 census shows this was her second marriage.

RG10 3920 folio 36
Dunkirk Little Hulton  Lancashire
Matilda Jackson  36  United States Head Widow Housekeeper
John Jackson  17  East India Son  Coalminer
Alice Jackson 13 East India Daughter  Cloth spinner
Sarah Jackson  11  East India Daughter Cloth spinner
Ann Jackson 8 Little Hulton, Lancashire, Daughter
Job Jackson  8 Little Hulton, Lancashire,  Son
Mary Jackson  2  Little Hulton, Lancashire,  Daughter
Lodging next door
Amos Jackson  34  Little Hulton, Lancashire, Boarder Unmarried Coalminer

Marriages Jun 1873
JACKSON  Amos     Bolton  8c 510
JACKSON  Matilda     Bolton  8c 510

Amos Jackson was in Little Hulton on the 1861 census but according to the birthplaces of her children it would be unlikely Matilda was in England on that census.
I would suggest Matilda's first husband was in the army and met Matilda in Canada. If that is the case it is likely the 1871 census is the first census Matilda appears on in England.

Regards

Valda

The post by Sue is nearly two years old............the 1861 appeared to be too much of a coincidence..........right age .......... born in the right area.....living at the right place ie Worsley is part or next door to Salford!

Little Hulton (1871) is in Salford (1861)according to my autoroute

HOPEFULLY.............Sue has already got the info she was looking for, but if she hasn't at least it has generated new interest  :)

Thanks for the information.  I think that night be her in Salford but she should have had some children with her.

She married twice, both times to men called Amos Jackson (the first time in India).  I'm still trying to see if the two Amos Jacksons were related in some way.  (I think they were cousins).

Thanks
Sue
