Ballarat/Geelong John Carver 1850s

Does any one have information about the John Carver of 'Carver & Dalton' who were auctioneers in Ballarat and Geelong in the 1850s?.   One of the recreations at the Soveriegn Hill theme park in Ballarat is their auction and sale room -  his associate was a William Dalton.

Frank Carver born 1858  reg no 6712

John Smith Carver born  1860 reg no 2522

this couple had married  in  Tasmania

John Smith Carver adult age married Rose Stewart aged 17
791850 at Launceston RGD 37   reg no 650/1850

Hi Neil,   Just saw this post.    I did a little bit of research on this topic.

As I was searching for information on William Dalton

and trying to figure out if my man was the William Dalton of Carver & Dalton.

Hi All,

To cut a long story short, I am still around although puzzled as the 2020 posting to my original 2008 entry produced an e-mail notification for me but other postings made back in 2008 did not.   Oh hum.

The upshot is that all the subsequent postings are new to me.

The Ballarat Smith Carver and my own expanding collection of Carvers have yet to collide, so I suspect we are not connected.   [I have meantime traced a few other Carvers to Australia since 2008.]  A vague recollection I have is of coming across a collection of prominent Smith Carvers in the United States.

Thanks for the update.   Here's to the next twelve years.
