Rick,

Thanks very much. You've been a huge help. I know harriet died a widow in 1899 so that explains the last part. I don't know what resource you use, it sounds either very useful or very painstaking or both.

Thanks again,

TJ

TJ

Glad to help.

I use many resources, many of which are published by the Suffolk Family History Society.  These are very keenly priced.

The Federation of Family History Societies also provide much information which is available online.  Again this is very reasonable.

Or by post;

There are also many commercial organisations (FHS's are charities) such as Archive cd books and S&N Geneaology supplies, which sell county censuses.

http://www.ancestry.com/ Provide census data online for a subscription fee.

Good luck with your research.

Rick

Rick,

after all your hard work the trail muddies. Saw the reference to the marriage of James and Elizabeth in the Suffolk fhs marriage index, but also a James Allen of Glemsford married Elizabeth Nice from colchester in 1827. The '41 census did say she was not from suffolk. Any details on the '51 census of her origin? Kris thinks it's somewhere in essex in the '61 census.

Hopefully,

TJ

Does anyone know exactly where a birth in Glemsford in 1861 have been registered. Would it have been necessary to visit the Sudbury register office or was there a local place in Glemsford.
Thanks for any guidance on this
Ken
