1914 1918 War
« on: Tuesday 27 May 08 12:04 BST (UK) »
My grand father was a soldier in the great war of 1914 1918. He joined up in the Montgomeryshire Yeomanary, but was probably attached to one the Welsh Regiments. His details are as follows, Walter Yapp born December 3rd 1876, he was severely injured, probably in  Yprys or the Somme.H e suffered from war wound disability all his life after discharge from hospital. He died on April 17th 1950 from war wounds. Can any one please help me, I believe it is possible to get some details of his service life from the medals list of where he may have served and other service details . I have visited the National Archives with little success. A little help would be gratefully appreciated. He also served in the Irish Up Rising.
Very many thanks in anticsipation, Eric.

There are some pension records.  I'll have a look for you. It might also  be worth posting on the Armed Forces - WW1 board  :)

Sorry . There isn't a pension record for him  :-\   I've checked the War Office, general records as well  :(

As I said, the Armed Forces Board may be the best place - put a link to this thread so that thye know what I've looked at.

No I've checked the Pensions Records that are online and he's not showing but the Armed Forces Board is on this site:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,397.0.html

If you put up a request saying that you've got his Medal card and that I've checked for a pension record, they will help with things that I'm not really up on.

There are some very knowledgeable people there who are sure to help  :)
