Castleton births query
« on: Tuesday 27 May 08 14:04 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
I've seen the IGI Batch numbers for Rox, but Castleton seems to start at c1749. Which area would Castleton residents be recorded under prior to that?
Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob

We meet again  :)

Here are the records that are available for Castleton:

http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files1/family-records/list-of-oprs-758to811.pdf

and do a search for Castleton in the Adobe bar

Births - 1749-1854
Marriages - 1759 - 1771 and 1836-1855
Deaths - 1760-67

This means that before that there are no records - they either didn't exist or have been mislaid/destroyed.

The Kirk Session Minutes might give some information before that if they are available  :-\

Note - the IGI online records might not have all births up, although the film will have them.

Regards

 ;D ;D ;D

It's not really local Bob, I often pass through Roxburghshire on my way to the Highlands  :)

I do have a bit of experience with the Scottish records though  ;)
