From the info given it is almost certain that your relly was 49th entry at RAF Halton.

I was an 86th Entry Aircraft Apprentice from 1957 -60 you will find links to all the individual entry websites here(if the entry has one) the 47 and 51 entries would have been at Halton at the time you are interested in I believe.

i have photos (Dads) Halton 1944 - 1947 49TH Entry inst/mkrs + Brass Band, the Names 49th Garlick. Brammer. Merton. Vickery. Grigg. Turner. Irvine. MacGregor. Ralphs. and Dad, Breakwell. One of the band photos is dated Aug 46

My Father Ron Grigg was 49th entry instrument maker apprentice at RAF Holton.
He would be so please to see photographs of his entry.
Someone called Breakwell posted a thread saying they had some photos including ones of Grigg.
I wondered if this person is still using this forum.

An apprentice went into the RAF at 16, 2 years before National Service age so the person would have volunteered to join. After completing the course it would have cost quite a lot of money to buy yourself out as it would have been very expensive for the RAF to train boys for such a long time. My guess would be he completed at least 9 yrs service. My husband was an electronics app., he was at RAF Locking, Somerset, he signed on for 12 yrs but in the end served 24 yrs.

RAF Halton is just outside Wendover Bucks. and apps were still there late in the 1960s as I was there too, doing my trade training at the Dental Training Establishment also based at RAF Halton.

In order to apply for a servicemans record you will obviously need his service number.  If he is deceased you will need to provide his death certificate and also prove that you, or the person applying is a close relation, IE wife, son or daughter etc.

I'm afraid that address is out of date. Apart from that there have been other changes regarding who can apply for records. For example, any member of the public can apply for someone's records if the subject died more than 25 years ago. The new address and up to date procedures etc are provided here:
