The Cobh Genealogical Project
« on: Saturday 31 May 08 02:04 BST (UK) »
The Cobh Genealogical Project involves the computerising of all the Church of Ireland parish registers for the County of Cork. The Project also holds microfilm of all Cork County Church of Ireland Registers which are National Archives, and which escaped destruction in the Public Record Office in 1922. These contain marriage Records prior to 1845 as well as Baptism and Burial Records prior to 1870. Some go back to the 1650, but 1750 is more usual. Approximately half the surviving records in the diocese, ie ... 200,000, records have already been processed.

Click here for details if you require a search ... there is a fee charged for searching the records ... www.cork.anglican.org/information/researchingfamilyhistory.html

I have been reading comments about the Cobh Genealogical Society with great interest. I don't know if it is because I am so far away in Australia, but the link just will not work for me. I wonder if anyone can help me please?
First, I am trying to find out about my great great grandmother, Maria Hanton, who is said to have been born on Spike Island, about 1846. Family myth has it that her father was a gardener on the Island, and that his name is John Hanton.
Second, I would love some details about her marriage to John Anderson, in the military, in about 1863.
I'd be very grateful if I can be pointed in the right direction.
Thanking you
Janine

The webpage that the link pointed seems to have moved or been replaced, but the main Cork & Ross Church of Ireland website is still working ok at : http://www.cork.anglican.org/

This link mentions details on genealogy research and the Cobh Genealogical Project  - Resources/Genealogy

Does anyone know what happened to this project? The links seem not to work any more.
