Ebenezer Wright
« on: Saturday 31 May 08 16:40 BST (UK) »
I've just started to research my maternal line and find they are from Brecon. The names I have so far are Elizabeth Wright circa 1862, Mary Thomas circa 1834 and Elizabeth Lewis. I am looking for the marriage of Mary Thomas to Ebenezer Wright -St.John the Evangelist?
Ebenezer is thought to have come from Scotland I was wondering why anyone would relocate to Brecon at that time.
(I apologise for the being a little vague about the details but all my paperwork isn't available to me at present due to decorating!)
I have had my mtDNA done and have matched with a family in America who's roots are also in Brecon. How cool would it be to find our common ancestress.
Any help will be much appreciated. x

Wow thank you Carole for your super quick response. Yes you are right it was Elizabeth Lewis he married, and this is as far as I managed. As I said my main interest at the moment is the maternal line so I need to find Elizabeth Lewis's parents. Where is St Mary's is it in Brecon town? I'm not too familiar with Brecon yet but will go there soon to get a feel of the place. Oh yeah any idea wher Ebenezer would have been buried? Cheers

Hi

Sorry but I haven't a clue about Brecon as I live in Lancashire.

re: Elizabeth's parents.  You may have problems there as marriages pre-1837 did not include fathers names.  There are several possibilities on the IGI but without knowing her birthyear or birthplace or fathers name, it will be an uphill struggle

Can I suggest you post a message asking for a full lookup of the 1826 marriage at St Mary's just in case somebody has access to the records and (fingers crossed) it gives additional info

Re: Ebenezars burial - include that request for info in your lookup request as somebody with more knowledge of the Breconshire area may be able to help you
