Langtry/Lantry Catherine
« on: Tuesday 06 April 04 23:32 BST (UK) »
Catherine was born 1833, and arrived in Australia as a Bounty immigrant aboard the `Tippoo Saib' in 1850.  Her parents were Thomas and Margaret and both were deceased.
She married Charles John Blinman in 1855.

That is all I know about her and would love to know more.

Hi Janette,

there is a William Langtry Bell in Ballykeel Holywood Co Offaly on the Griffiths Valuation. Maybe he's a relative?

Hiya Jeanette,

Edward Langtry, an Irish landowner, married Emilie Charlotte Le Breton who was born on the island of Jersey in 1853. http://www.lillielangtry.com I checked Griffiths Valuation of Ireland 1848-64. Most of the Langtrys were in the north of Ireland by that time. I have found mention of a Maria Langtry, a cousin of Edward Langtry
(a wealthy Belfast shipbuilder). http://ralph.cs.cf.ac.uk/HOB/HOBB.pdf I looked at www.familysearch.org I found several Langtrys born in Ireland but didn't notice Co. Offaly.

All the Best, Chris

Many thanks for the info you posted but I really don't think she fits into the area you searched.  She was baptised in Gallen Parish, and on arrival said she was from Banagher, Kings County, Offaly.  We do hae a photo of her but not a clear one of her face.

again thanks

Hi Jeanette,
I am descended from Patrick Thomas Lantry who was born in Banagher in 1796 a son of James & Bridget .  Patrick was married twice, the descendants of his first wife Bridget Donohue still live in Ireland around Cork & Dublin, he emigrated to Australia with his second wife and family in 1865.  Patrick and family settled in Paterson (Hunter Valley) most of the descendants still live around the Maitland, Morpeth, Hinton, Largs (Hunter Valley)area. While I have no details of siblings Catherines father was quite possibly a brother/cousin of Patrick.

Hi Mick,
That is a great connection.  Hope Janette sees it soon.

It would be good to get the line of enquiry onto the Australian Board [emigrants to Australia] if she and you are interested in persuing the Aussie line both backwards and forwards [if you get what i mean!]
Sue
PS the only reason I read it is that Ofally is such an odd name for a place!

Thanks for the post.   It is very possible that the Langtry's are related, as Bannagher is only a small dot on the map.  Catherine arrived as a Bounty girl in 1850.  She is my husband's gggrandmother, and we never thought that a relation would come to Australia.
We went to Bannagher last year, but didn't find anything.  I do not have any more info than I posted about her background but of course have her descendants her in Australia.
Look forward to hearing from you

I am happy to have this line put onto the Australian board.  But as I had never even thought of there being other descendants in Australia, I put it here hoping that someone would know of her background, and it looks like I have found someone.

Hi Mick
I am also descended from Patrick Lantry and his wife Catherine who came to Australia 1865 on the ‘St Hilda’
I am wondering why various forum posts talk of him marrying twice.... born 1795.
I haven’t done a proper search into English records myself but the ship record of their arrival clearly states that he was 45 yrs old.
I can’t imagine that a man of 70 yrs old could pass for 45 especially back then in 1865!!
Do you know of any proof of his birth and marriage in England?
