Hensey (later) Hennessy
« on: Sunday 08 June 08 17:10 BST (UK) »
Has anyone come across the Hensey/Hennessy family from Laois
John Hensey (later Hennessy) and his wife Margaret nee KAY had at least three children that I know of.
Patrick Hensey born 23rd Aug. 1869
Michael Hensey born 1st July 1872
Peter Hensey born 27th June1876.
All were born in Laois but I do not know what part.
Patrick Hennessy was my grandfather who later moved to Dublin where he married Kate Henderson.  Thank you.     Bridget x

The birth certificates of any of those 3 children will list an exact place of birth (townland) which is what you need to start searching for church records, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for your reply Aghadowey. As I have just explained on Seanmacs thread I do not have a proper marriage or birth certificate just a basic “Record” from the Irish heritage Site which I was overjoyed to get! The marriage record did not even give the Christian or nee name of the bride and grooms parents, just two surnames. As I am not familiar with the place names of “Kyle” and “Castlebail” I am now hoping some kind soul will point me in the right direction as to who would hold the records for Birth, Marriages and Deaths. I suspect I these two places are outlying rural areas so don’t even know if there is a local Church I could write to. Regards, Bridget

Civil records (including birth certificates) can be ordered here:
www.groireland.ie

Birth certificates list date and place (townland) of birth, child's name (unless registered without a Christian name), father's name and occupation (unless child is illegitimate), mother's name including maiden name, name of informant.

Hi. I don't think there is any connection but my grandfather's surname was Hennessy but the family tend to call themselves Hensey in Ireland but revert to the standard spelling elsewhere. He was from Laois, a place called Knocknagad which is about 6 miles from Mountrath. There was was a Patrick but born a few years later than you have stated also no Peter or Michael.

Its possible you have found the details you were looking for as it is some years since your posting. Family search has records of the birth/baptisms of some of the children of John Hensey and Margaret Kay- giving a placename for Michael's christening as Coolrain Queens (Co.)
