Scotty

If you have concerns about email addresses on web sites - get yourself a web address - hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc  I have a number - keeps everything separate - very handy.

If you correspond with one person only, by PM or email, you lose the chance of assistance from many other people. Sancti is a very good researcher as are many other folks on rootschat. Don't limit the possible assistance

Thanks for that Trish, I do have a few email addresses so I may dedicate one to rootschat. I have put the name of the person I am researching on the forum so maybe I may get a response. Hope so because I have reached a wall.

Scotty you need to be a bit more precise on the information you are seeking. What is the wall you have reached? Name date and area will help Rootschatters to assist you.

As the title is Simpsons of Scoonie and the name I gave is Andrew Simpson and the date I gave was 1797, this is where I cannot get further back.

Do you know when he died, do you know who he married? Is it his parents you are looking for?

I have no idea when he died, he was married to Isabella, I don't know her maiden name. I have no idea who his father, mother or grand parents were.

The OPR's on SP only show 2 marriage in the area

31/01/1819 SIMPSON ANDREW married ISABEL EDGAR/ at Scoonie (Fife) /FIFE

Banns also proclaimed at Wemyss

05/02/1819 SIMPSON ANDREW and ISABEL EDGER/ at Wemyss /FIFE

There is another record for a marriage of an Andrew Simpson in Fife. Going by the date it may be a son of the above or a second marriage or even a completely different Andrew

29/06/1849 SIMPSON ANDREW married ISABELLA COLVILLE/ at Auchtermuchty /FIFE

I can only see 1 christening record around that time in Scoonie

29/09/1805 SIMSON ANDREW son of WILLIAM SIMSON/JEAN GREIG at Scoonie (Fife) /FIFE

Unfortunately I cant see a death record after 1855 for an Andrew born around 1797.

Hi Scotty

If you want to go away and talk privately to whoever please do, but you must know it is near impossible to start searching for folks with one name. Tom was asking you for details of the family going back through the generations   Presumably to add to his mass of names from Fife.

All good research goes back from what you know. I presume you know the children of your Andrew, who would give a good idea as to the name of his father and mother, and the name of his wife's parents. Scottish naming patterns seem to be very strong back in this period of time.  Details of the next generation can probably be found on census records. Often parents/grandparents are found living with their children.

With such a minimimal amount of information, Sancti is away  :) - I am impressed.

the Fife death CD gives an Andrew Simpson died in Scoonie 24/1/1847 buried  26/1/1847   OPR 456-4

Don't know if that helps?
