Scrap Heap Challenge - Updated - Finale!
« on: Wednesday 11 June 08 10:55 BST (UK) »
This was found on the scrap heap  :( and I think it deserves a bit of TLC so please feel free to clean/colour/whatever.

If anyone recognises the family (from Australia) I'd be happy to send the original to a family member but sadly it appears to be homeless and unloved - such a shame  :'(

Have fun

Di

Hi Toni,

I think it's lovely as well but obviously someone else didn't like it.

All their names are listed on the pic and it's dated 1938 so it's very possible that some of the young ones may still be alive and as their surname is VERY unusual and distinctive, I felt it best not to post their names.

I'm happy to PM the information if anyone is interested

Di

Well done Hippy - I'm sure the family are a lot happier now that all the marks and scratches have gone.

I do hope someone can claim them.

Thank you
Di

What a great restoration.

I think you could post just the surname...at least that would allow someone to make PM inquiry  as to the family connection.

I don,t think that would break the rules....Unless someone else knows better?

It would be a wonderful find, & addition to anyones family research

Hi Judi

I have just asked one of our Mods if posting any family details was breaking the rules but unfortunately the Mod signed off just as I sent my message.

I'm happy to post details but I'd better wait - just in case.

I'll be back as soon as I know ....

OK folks - I've done all the right things and asked all the right people  ;D

The picture is dated 1938
The family name is ABOOD

The father is listed as being 29 1/2 years old and the mother is 28 - that is in 1938.

The picture was found in the Gold Coast region.

I believe they may have had some connection with Queensland (Oz!!) in the Warwick area.

I have received via PM some details for the father who is listed on the National Archives site with his war record and that notes his place of birth as Qld.

He is also shown on the 1936 Electoral Roll, still in the same place.

Don't know if it's any help to anyone but maybe someone will recognise the distinctive surname.

Thanks
Di
