Hi Audrey, James SEWILL (note spelling) is on the 1881 census cd that I have, born Cumberland and living in lodgings in Cumberland.

On the Vital Records Index cd there is a Martin SEWELL from Cumberland christened 1881. These may help your research, if you'd like to contact me I'll forward the record by e-mail to you.

Regards

This is a longshot but have you tried this website for longtown newspapers - I've broken down a serious brickwall with it's help but that could have just been luck!!

Right, this is a google seaerch as I can't open freeserve links without crashing my pc - it is the fifth one down 19th century Longtown. It holds lots and lots of newspaper clips.

Don't worry about the link it will be fine for anyone else - I have a unique problem where my email software is incompatible with all thinks freeserve!

Cheers,
Pam
