Baptism Look-up please in Blakemere - WILCOX - COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 12 June 08 16:26 BST (UK) »
Would it be possible for someone to check the parish records for Blakemere for a baptism for a
Mary Ann Wilcox which is listed on the IGI as 30 Jul 1852, parents Thomas Wilcox and Ann
I am interested to see if there is any other info listed especially abode and father's occupation

Thanks
SC

The registration of the birth on 23 July 1852 (not the baptismal record) gives the father (Thomas) as a Blacksmith and mother's maiden name as Ann MORGAN. The index I have spells the surname Willcox (with two lls). It was registered in Leominster district and simply gives Blakemere as the area of the birth.

Do you want me to look for the marriage of  Thomas and Ann or siblings for Mary Ann?

Thanks very much for looking up the details for Mary Ann Wil(l)cox for me - I always have had to look at both spellings and a few variations!
It is the info I was looking for and confirms my other findings
I have the marriage date for Thomas and Ann in Feb 1852 in Skenfrith, Monmouth which is why I wanted to check this baptism out even though she was listed on 1861 census as being born in Blakemere
All the other siblings were born in Skenfrith or Monmouth so I already have those but thanks for offering to check for me

Thanks for your help

Glad to be of assistance - I think you are also looking for Rix/Rex - is there anything that you still need on that line which would be revealed on 1837 onwards Herefordshire records of births, marriages or deaths?

Hi Snooper

Funny that Mary Ann's birth would be registered in Leominster dist as Blakemere comes in another district but maybe they were away from home

Thanks so much for your kind offer of further assistance and yes there are a few dates etc with these Rex and Willcox families that I have not yet finalised
I have not yet found the marriage date or place for Ann Rex (possibly Sarah Ann) and George Davies in 1845 - she was born in Pencoyd, family were in Weston in 1841
Was going to order the cert but I'm still waiting on a previous order
Did they have a son William Davies born about 1854 in St Owen? (census info) (the 7 other children all seem to be born in Woolhope)

Birth for a Henry (possibly Henry John) Rex about 1862 (was chr in 1869 but family says born 1862)
to William and Sarah in St Martin Hereford - only one on BMD is a John but he was always Henry
Death for this Henry possibly in 1905 ? he was a plumber (I was told 1916 but somehow I don't think so)

Death for William Rex (born 1836) possibly 1884, St  Martin
Death for George Davies 1875 ? (b abt 1814 in Orcop, lived Woolhope)

The other puzzle concerns Sarah Willcox's mother - Catherine Jones married Thomas Willcox in 1827,
he died in 1847 and by 1851 she is Catherine Farr, married, no husband in house on census night and then widowed again by 1871 - I have not been able to find her remarriage so don't know husbands name or when he died  but maybe your index may reveal something

If there is anything on your index for a Francis Wilcox born 1832 to Thomas and Catherine it would be appreciated - he seems to have disappeared after the 1841 census and yet I didn't find a death
or anything

I hope this is not imposing too much
Thanks a lot

Hi Snooper
Thanks to the info you sent me I now have answered some of these questions and will be able to order some certificates

I still have not found a marriage for Catherine Wilcox (nee Jones) and a Mr Farr anywhere, it's not in Hereford and nothing is showing up on BMD anywhere

Any offers of help on this one would be much appreciated
Thanks SC

Glad to have been of assistance. I could not find anything definitive for the Davies' that you mention but it is such a common name around here and with Williams and Georges as first names?????????..........it could take an age

Best of luck and you know where I am if you need more,

Hi all especially "The Snooper". This is my first effort so anything may happen.
You list "Bartram Sheffield" as an interest, I am descended from Thomas Bartram born Eakring Notts 1845  and Emma Fearnehough. Parents John Bartram and Mary nee Ward. My grandmother was Gertrude Bartram born Sheffield Yorks 1880. Any help?
Cheers

Welcome to Rootschat - the best FH forum around in my humble opinion.

My Bartram's also came originally from Eakring, Notts so I am sure there must be some connection.

My Great Grandmother was Annie Bartram born in Sheffield about 1860. Her father was Joseph Bartram a Wheelwright who was baptized in Ollerton, Notts in  1823 and moved to Sheffield in the late 1850s. Joseph's father was Enoch (c1784) from Eakring and Enoch's father was Thomas Bartram.

If any of this looks familiar (excuse the pun) please make contact through a PM and we can exchange notes,

Cheers
