Thomas Evans, Post Office, Evenjobb
« on: Sunday 15 June 08 17:58 BST (UK) »
On the 1881 census for Evenjobb, Radnor RG11/2609/100/2: Thomas Evans, Wheelwright, was residing at a dwelling named ‘Post Office’.  The household included, son William also Wheelwright and Charles Griffiths, servant, wheelwright and two servants employed as ag/labs.?   Would anyone know anything of this property, seem strange to have wheelwrights and ag/labs in a post office.

Sorry this thank you is late but it is better late than never.  Only just come across your message and so it is a belated thank you for your time and effort in placing the photos of Evenjob.

Best regards

Roy

Post Office at this time was first building on left, set at right angles to road, as you enter Evenjobb from Walton end. Thomas was still there in 1901. The family are also listed in Evenjobb censuses for 1861/71 as Wheelwrights, but probably at different premises nearby. There were 2 Wheelwrights in Evenjobb from at least 1841 and premises were very close together (at least, they were always listed in census within a couple of homesteads).

Many thanks for the information, some details there I can work on.  I use my local library to search census and will check 61/71 on my next visit.
