Ellen Callard (Ellen Allen)
« on: Monday 16 June 08 14:24 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out about the families of William Allen and Ellen Callard.  William was the son of Thomas Allen  (1777) and Rachel Marsland and they came from the Dullingham area.  I am trying to find out who Ellens parents were and if she had any siblings.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Can you tell us a bit more about the records you have?

How do you know that they came from the Dulingham area?

Was Thomas A born in 1777?

One of my maternal lines came from the Dullingham/Wood Ditton area. A lot of records were available on IGI.

Found this on the IGI :)

Ellen COLLARD
Christening:  14 AUG 1825   Whitfield, Kent
Father:  John COLLARD
Mother:  Hallis COLLARD

+ same place and with same parents, this batch no;I005022 only seems to show females.

Allis COLLARD              27 APR 1823      John & Allis COLLARD

This looks like the family in 1841, minus Eliza and Ellen but including some sons,

Hi Justin

My father died at the end of April and among some his family tree paperwork I found a letter from the Cambridgeshire Records Office  stating that William Allen was born in Dullinghan and that he and his wife were on the 1851 census as living with his parents Thomas and Rachel in London Road.

Other bits of information have been gained from looking through old e-mails he had received.  Thomas was born on 26th July 1777 and I have a very poor quality photocopy of his entry of birth.

Lots of other info has been gained from Genes Reunited.

Anything you have would be great.

I just received a copy of some inquest papers relating to the death of Thomas Allen who died in Addenbrooks Hospital. The inquest was held on 11 August 1854 and from what I can decifer from it, Thomas accidentally shot himself with an old pistol.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me more. I dont think he died from the actual wounds received from the pistol as from what I can make out he shot off some fingers - he first visited a hospital on the 29th July.

Hi,
Are there any more details on Thomas's death certificate?
There may have been a report in the local newspaper which may give more details.

Newbie to RootsChat here ...

I know your posting was in 2008, but I've a personal interest in its details.

I started researching my family history last year and have found out that William & Ellen Allen were my Great x 3 Grandfather & Grandmother on my Dad's, Mum's side of the family.

I live in the village next to Dullingham and know the area shown on the various census results very well.

I've yet to track down exactly which house they lived in within the Lordship Farm (now Stud) area (any help on this front would be appreciated).

William ended his days in Newmarket Union Workhouse and died at the age of 71 in 1892.

His family carried on in the area and his son Henry moved to Newmarket, which is where I'm from.

He also had other children who I haven't found out about yet and I've just come across details of Allens in the electoral roll living within a few hundred yards of Lordship Stud - so they may be relatives?

I'd be interested in finding out what you've discovered about the Allens over the last two years.

Thanks

DavidR
