Carnwath family of Derry
« on: Wednesday 07 April 04 17:09 BST (UK) »
Does any one in Derry/Londonderry know of the Carnwath family who lived in the Waterside? Hamilton Carnwath born in 1857 in Bonds Fields and died in 1940. He married Margaret Lillian Glenn. His father, Andrew Carnwath, was born in 1835 and died in Bonds Street in 1900. He married around 1855 but I do not whom. Can anyone please look up the early census on Londonderry for me? Thank you.
Regards,
Alex

Alex-

My family (Carnwath) came from Londonderry. I have a whole family tree somewhere I'll try to find that might have your Carnwaths on it.
All the Carnwaths I know of either ended up in the US, Canada, or the UK, and are decendent from 4 brothers who emmigrated from N. Ireland. When I have some time I'll try to find the document I'm thinking of and email a copy of it to you.

However I never heard of Bonds Street or Bonds Fields. Where are these?

By the way all the Carnwaths are conviently named Andrew, John, James, Robert, or Joseph. I'm the odd man out having been named after a maternal grandfather.

Richard,
Only just seen your reply. Sorry for the delay. I shall be glad to have your details. Please send to my own e-mail address.
Bonds Street and Bonds Field are in the Waterside area of Londonderry or Derry, across the bridge from the city, around the start of the Dungiven, Limavady and Prehen roads.

I haven't forgotton, I just haven't gotten around to the old family tree. Keep hoping 2005 will be more organized.

Richard,
Did you manage to find the Carnwath family tree you mentioned back in January? If so, please send to *Alex
