I've got a link to the Parton celebrations in  honour of James Clerk Maxwell  somewhere - I'll put it up

However, this one is a different man.

It was by chance that I came upon this thread about Maxwell Clark.  On Christmas Eve, I was trying to explain the relationship of some old family photos to my son.  He wanted to "Google" his great-great grandfather, Maxwell Clark. The first site to pop up was RootsChat. We clicked on it and I was excited to read that you seemed to be researching the same line as I am.

My grandfather was Edward Noltie Clark. He was born in Scotland to Maxwell Clark and Mary Cowan.
Edward Noltie Clark moved to England.  At some point (probably after Mary Cowan died) Maxwell moved to the Wirral to be with family.
Maxwell Clark died in Birkenhead Wirral  on Dec. 19,  1914.
I am looking into Maxwell's parents as well. I am fairly certain that their are William Clark and Agnes Millar.

Welcome to roots chat Hummingbird. This is a great place to seek and give information.

I will have to look up more about Maxwell as I have moved away from this family ( this was for my friend) so will put some info together and get back to you.

Hi Hummimgbird,
We have different Maxwell Clarks.
I think and I am unsure about these Maxwell Clarkes (there are a few) that your Maxwell m Mary Cowan
16/9/1870.
The Maxwell Clarke s/ William and Agnes Millar c 17/9/1826/
I have no date of marriage for this Maxwell but think he m. Mary Crosbie around 1846 as Maxwell John Crosbie Clarke was born 1848 This is our family.

There is another Max s/ William & Jan Howat c 1833

All this is in Dumfries in Caerlavarock or Kirkgunzeon

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Let me know if I can do more.

I don't think that there is much doubt that the Maxwell Clark who was married to Mary Crosbie is the same person as the one that married Mary Cowan.

Just look at the names of two of the children listed in the 1881 census:-
Richard Crosbie Clark, son of Mary #1 and Joseph Cowan Clark son of Mary #2.

Joseph Cowan Clark moved to Edinburgh where he was a grocer, and in 1901, he and his wife Margaret (unk) had a son, yet another Maxwell Clark.
