Where's Newton Lancs

Hi
I'm trying to find Sarah Ann Strickland who  gives her  d.o.b.as c1870 in Newton Lancs but who was christened in 1871 in Sheffield.
Her parents John and Elizabeth[Calvert] Strickland were married in Manchester Parish Church and lived in the Ancoats area of Manchester.
I cant find this family at all on either the 1861 or 1871 Census for Lancs or Yorks.
I would appreciate any ideas of where to look next.

Newton could be Newton in Makerfield which was near Haydock.  I'm not sure but I think it was what we now know as Newton Le Willows

Several Newtons in Lancs but if they were in Ancoats, it might be Newton Heath (sometimes written down as just Newton) which was close by.  Newton Heath was a big railway/engineering place, if that fits for employment history.

Free bmds have a Sarah Ann Strickland registered in (but not necessarily born in) Sheffield, 2nd quarter 1870 - is that the one?

I take it that the family are the ones in Attercliffe in 1881 (RG11/4665 fol 41 pg 75).

If so there seems to be quite a gap between Elizabeth (16) and Sarah Ann (11). Might this be a second marriage? It might be worth getting Job's birth certificate to get Elizabeth's maiden name. He seems to be registered in Sheffield  - Q2 of 1873, vol9c pg525.

Thank you all for your input.I will fill in the information I have.Sarah Ann's father was John Strickland married Elizabeth Calvert  Dec 1853 at
Cath& Parish Church Manchester
Occupation: Dresser
Address 24 Mount St Ancoats
Father: John Strickland Spinner.
Cant find anything after this until the 1881 Census RG11/4665 Attercliffe[Sheffield]
Children
John George[23] Manchester
Elizabeth[16]            "
Sarah Ann[11]          "
David [9]             Sheffield
Job[7]                       "
I think with the large gaps in the childrens ages that many might have died.
In the 1891 Census Sarah is now married to Frank Cooper with daughters Eleanor and Sarah E but still living with her parents John and Elizabeth.

This is the Census that states Sarah Ann was born in Newton Manchester
Its a very elusive family,I thought I'd found John b.c1833 in Manchester in the 1841 1851 and 1861 Census but this one was a Mechanic and married a Mary Ann.So up a wrong tree again.

Newton near to Haydock, St Helens is  Newton le Willows.

There is also Newton Heath near Manchester which could be a possibility.

The sub registeration district for Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire,  happens to be Newton.
