Another mystery of my wifes relatives.
My wifes grandmother was a Margaret Ellen Thorpe, her father was a David Thorpe b.1861 or thereabouts in Wrexham and mother Ellen White b.1871 in Ieland, the other children were Mary A,William, and Susan, also I believe a Thomas from the first marriage to a Thomas Thorpe. There is no record as I can see of the Death of Thomas Thorpe.
Thomas Thorpe was born in Uppingham Rutland about 1865,and that seems to be a common name, but unable track him from there.
David Thorpe born in Wrexham but the same again till 1901 census and the family had moved to Newcastle Staffs,as David married a Ellen White.
Anybody with any ideas
Peter

Hi Tati
I made a typing error on the first message,David Thorpe was married to Margaret White as was Thomas Thorpe, the mother in law was Ellen White.
A very Catholic family.
Sorry about the mistakes.

So Margaret (whose birth place is shown as Haslington Lancashire in 1901) first married Thomas Thorpe, and then she married David, correct?

When and where did these events happen? Do you have Margaret on a census (it would be 1891 I presume) with Thomas? The 1901 census shows a son James age 11 born Cheshire Crewe - is this the one you were calling Thomas in your first post?

 :)

OK.

So this is the family in 1891:
RG12/2149 153 31
Newcastle under Lyme

Thomas Thorpe, head, 26, Pedlar, b. Rutland Uppingham
Margaret, wife, 21, b. Haslington Lancashire
James, son, 6 mo, b. Cheshire Crewe
Ellen White, mother in law, wid, 60, b. Lancashire Salford

Have you found a marriage for Margaret to David? Given I can't see one I was wondering if you knew for sure that they aren't one and the same man ... Have you identified both Thomas and David on a same census yet?

Hi
My wife has said thatas far as she can remember her GMother had said her father was a David Thorpe and she would only have been about 6 or 7years old,but the 2 census returns show Thomas b.in rutland and David b.Wrexham as married to the same woman.

OK, we see 2 different names on census. Now as long as we can find only one marriage, we need to do a bit of research ...

What age was David when he died? Were the later children all registered with father David? Can you see a David Thorpe born Wrexham on any census before 1901? (I can't :-\ )
