A few snippets....
The area Plessey (once Plessy) was named after Norman French landowners.. the de Plessis family, who came over with the Conqueror. ( You can see how the French silent "s" at end, allowed us natives to corrupt the name tp PLESSY !)
And yes it lay within the ancient parish of Stannington.
And for Civil Registration purposes from 1st July 1837 ( 171 yrs ago tomorrow... I must get a life ! ) Plessey lay within the widespread Registration District of Castle Ward ( which skirted Newcastle to the west and north)
In 1936 The RD of Castle Ward was abolished, it's area and existing registers were split between Newcastle City and Northumberland Central Reg Districts. Stannington area's records went to Northumberland Central, which is situated in the town of Morpeth.
To look further, see interesting maps on Plasshe(Speed's1610 map)Plasey/Plassey (Armstrong's 1769 map) and Plessey
( Fryer's 1820 map) on the web site Northumberland Communities
( at communities.northumberland.gov.uk)
Plessey was site for several very early "bell" coal pits, worked by just a handful of men ( bell from the shape of the hole they dug)
A renowned coal waggonway, ran from Plessey to Blyth harbour. Today one of Blyth's main roads, Plessey Road, lies on bed of the waggonway.

Census enumerators were instructed to record people's "place of birth" OR "parish of birth". So if Mary was born in Plessey, then Stannington was a correct recording ( It is interesting, well to me anyway, that census forms at right hand side were not headed "Place of Birth", but " Where Born".. enuf)

With Gilmore (and variations) not been a very common name
( rooted in Scotland) her birth registered within Castle Ward should in theory be fairly easy to find !
Unles..... Gilmore was not her birth name.
So to cut a long story short...............
Likely Scenario (but needs to be corroborated...
